The BEST CRUISE SHIP Restaurant

In the 144-days since the launch of Explora I, it has been my privilege to be onboard for more than 40 of them. In that time, I've developed a soft spot for an unparalleled gastronomic treasure: Sakura, a pan-Asian sanctuary that proves that dining at sea need not be a second-rate version of what you experience on land.

Nestled within the ship, Sakura isn't merely a restaurant; it's a voyage into a world of culinary artistry and cultural immersion. Imagine stepping into an ambiance that mirrors the essence of Japan - from the enchanting Japanese aesthetic to the breathtaking indoor cherry blossom tree that graces the ceiling, casting a spellbinding allure over the entire space.

Allow me to unravel the culinary wonders that define the essence of Sakura. It all starts when you sit down to find your napkin folded into a kimono like a piece of origami art. As a starter, perhaps the Tempura Prawn Salad or maybe the Waygu Beef - surprising the palate with its delectable fusion of flavors, setting the stage for an exquisite culinary journey. The Panang Curry dazzles with its aromatic spices, leaving an indelible mark on your taste buds. Let’s not overlook the Prawn Pad Thai, an embodiment of authentic Thai flavors that captivate the senses - or if Lamb is your preferred then Sakura has an Asian twist to their prime New Zealand lamb.

For those with a penchant for sweet finales, the Sakura Crème Brûlée is a symphony of decadence, an absolute must-have. If you still have room then I must put a word in for the poached pear with white chocolate mouse which was my other go-to dessert.

However, the true pièce de résistance at Sakura is the Sushi Station. A cornucopia of meticulously crafted sushi rolls, each a masterpiece, showcasing the freshest ingredients and unparalleled artistry. It's a haven for sushi enthusiasts, setting new standards for culinary excellence.

Sakura's exclusivity adds to its allure. With only one advance booking allowed per cruise, it might seem like a one-off experience only, however, I encourage you to do what I did and try your luck with walk-ins on any night. Moreover, while reservations are required for dinner, the restaurant opens its doors without prior booking for lunch. At this time, guests can also indulge in a delightful surprise—a Bento Box delivery poolside at the Astern pool on Deck 5, a picturesque setting for a midday culinary escapade.

What sets Sakura apart isn’t just its gastronomic prowess; it's the fusion of impeccable cuisine, inviting ambiance, and exceptional service. The attentive staff ensures that each moment spent here isn't just a meal, but a culinary journey filled with warmth and satisfaction.

In conclusion, for travelers aboard the Explora I, Sakura is an essential stop. Whether you’re an aficionado of Asian cuisine or an adventurous epicurean, this culinary haven promises an unparalleled experience transcending the boundaries of land and sea.

With its tantalizing offerings, immersive ambiance, and impeccable service, Sakura reigns as the undisputed jewel of dining on the high seas. Encounter it firsthand, and let your taste buds set sail on a voyage of flavors that linger in your memory long after the cruise concludes.
